Burnley has finalized a three-year contract to bring in Nicky Hayen, the former manager of Genk, as their new head coach. The 45-year-old Belgian takes over from Scott Parker, who stepped down in late April following the club’s departure from the Premier League.
Hayen, who previously managed Haverfordwest County, guided Genk to a seventh-place standing in the Belgian league last season. Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Hayen acknowledged that he has much to prove to the Burnley fanbase. The appointment followed unsuccessful attempts by the club to hire Craig Bellamy and former Wolves manager Rob Edwards.
Chairman Alan Pace highlighted Hayen’s ability to develop players and establish a distinct team identity as key factors in his selection. The chairman emphasized a commitment to a sustainable long-term plan for the club. Hayen will join the squad during their pre-season trip to the United States and is scheduled to manage his first competitive game against Notts County on August 8 in the Carabao Cup.
