Abuja Police Save Four Abductees Following Intense Shootout

FCT police successfully rescued four kidnapping victims from the Mpape area following a two-day search and an intense exchange of gunfire with the captors.

Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory have confirmed the rescue of four individuals who were held against their will. The operation followed a violent confrontation between law enforcement and suspected kidnappers in the Mpape district of Abuja.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police, stated that officers responded to a distress report on July 8. At approximately 10:40 p.m., assailants attacked the area and took four residents captive. Police units from the Anti-Kidnapping squad and the 24 Police Mobile Force were immediately dispatched.

The criminals had previously shot two other residents, one of whom—identified as Mr. Babangida—passed away at a hospital. The second survivor is currently recovering from a leg wound. After the initial abduction, officers tracked the suspects for two days through the difficult terrain of Jikoko Hills.

On July 10 at 12:05 a.m., police encountered the armed group near the hills. A heavy gun battle ensued, during which the police tactical advantage forced the suspects to release their hostages and retreat into the dense forest. All four kidnap victims were rescued without injury and returned home.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi expressed a firm commitment to capturing the remaining fugitives. He urged citizens to stay alert and contact the department immediately via their emergency hotlines if they notice any suspicious activity.
