Mr. Kehinde Bello, the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), has directed local industries to enhance their adherence to environmental mandates. During a recent tour across the agency’s three operational zones in Ogun Central, West, and East, he emphasized the need for businesses to bolster corporate social responsibility and integrate sustainable operations.
Bello advised management teams to invest in regular staff training to align facility practices with international environmental standards. He specifically advocated for government-industry partnerships regarding tree planting to mitigate climate change and support global warming reduction efforts.
The agency also highlighted strict protocols for hazardous waste and spent oil disposal, insisting that firms must utilize only licensed waste handlers and maintain accurate records. Furthermore, Bello mandated the installation and upkeep of Effluent Treatment Plants to stop the dumping of untreated water, while reminding companies to secure all necessary chemical permits from OGEPA.
Director of Inspectorate and Compliance, Babatunde Bolarinwa, detailed the essential permits required for operations, including those for chemical storage and effluent discharge, as well as environmental audits. Representing the visited firms, Mrs. Mark Tijani of Fidson Healthcare Plc praised OGEPA for the initiative, noting it strengthens the partnership between the state and the private sector for sustainable progress.
