Tinubu Pledges to Turn Wasa into a Modern Business Center in Abuja

President Tinubu has inaugurated key infrastructure in Wasa, aiming to relocate Apo mechanics and traders to a modern, well-equipped commercial district in Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu has announced that his government is installing high-quality infrastructure in Wasa to establish the area as a thriving commercial center within the Federal Capital Territory. Represented by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the President inaugurated new utility services, including power, water, and road networks, for the Wasa informal sector layout on Friday.

The project serves as a permanent relocation site for mechanics and traders currently operating in the overcrowded Apo Mechanic Village. According to the President, these business owners have endured difficult working conditions for over ten years, and this relocation initiative fulfills a commitment that previous administrations failed to honor. Tinubu noted that this development will stimulate Abuja’s internal revenue and decrease business operating costs.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike praised the President for delivering on the 2023 pledge within a short timeframe. Wike encouraged the beneficiaries to begin their transition process immediately. He also indicated that the extension of the Outer Southern Expressway to Wasa is planned for completion before the end of the President’s second term.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, added that these infrastructure improvements aim to foster inclusive growth throughout the territory. Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, clarified that the site was originally designated in the Abuja Master Plan to provide a structured space for informal trades, such as car repair and spare parts sales, away from the city center.
