Military repels ISWAP raid in Borno, killing six insurgents

Troops successfully defended a base in Logomani, Borno State, killing six ISWAP militants and wounding seven others during a thwarted attack.

A group of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants faced a significant setback in Borno State after soldiers successfully thwarted an assault on a Forward Operating Base in Logomani. During the engagement on July 7, the military neutralised six combatants and left seven others with major wounds.

Zagazola Makama, an analyst specializing in regional security, confirmed the events. Intelligence reports suggest the militants gathered at Garal before marching on the base. Facing intense pushback from the military, the remaining fighters retreated to Chukun Gudu.

Reports indicate the insurgents gathered at that location to inter their fallen comrades, including a high-ranking commander named Munzir, often called Ba Alayi, who hailed from Wulgo. This confrontation is part of the ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI forces to neutralize militant hideouts and impede insurgent operations throughout the Lake Chad basin.
