Olubadan Urges Ibadan Residents to Avoid Ethnic Violence

Olubadan Oba Rasidi Ladoja has cautioned residents of Ibadan against ethnic conflict following a violent clash in the Ojoo area that resulted in multiple casualties.

Oba Rasidi Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland and former Oyo State governor, has cautioned citizens against actions that might trigger ethnic unrest. He emphasized that all residents should exist in harmony, disregarding differences in age, gender, religion, or background.

This advisory follows a recent violent encounter in the Ojoo region of Ibadan between Yoruba and Hausa factions. The unrest reportedly began Wednesday after the death of a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Yoruba, on Tuesday. The ensuing clashes between local youths left at least one additional person dead, though the victim’s identity remains unconfirmed.

Ladoja expressed deep regret regarding the violence. In a statement issued by his media assistant, Chief Adeola Oloko, the traditional ruler highlighted that the peaceful integration of all people in Ibadan is a top priority. He reminded the public that regardless of origin or belief, everyone living in the city should interact as members of one family.
