Australian officials examine unidentified metallic spheres found on Queensland coast

Australian authorities are investigating the discovery of mysterious silver spheres on a Queensland beach, warning the public that the objects may be dangerous space debris.

Authorities in Queensland are currently examining several large, silver spheres that recently appeared on Forrest Beach, located north of Townsville. The Australian Space Agency has launched an investigation to identify the objects, which are suspected to be remnants of space debris.

Due to safety concerns regarding potential toxic or reactive materials, the spheres were secured by personnel in protective gear and placed into hazardous material containers under police supervision. The Queensland fire department established a 50-meter perimeter and warned the public to maintain a safe distance and contact emergency services if they encounter similar debris, as the objects could be volatile.

While online theories suggest these items might be rocket fuel tanks, their specific origin remains unknown. This event follows previous incidents of space debris washing ashore in Australia, including a large metal dome found near Perth in 2023 that India later identified as part of a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. Similar objects have been documented globally, such as a tank discovered in Namibia in 2011, which experts believed contained hazardous propellant.
