Armed assailants target farmers in Plateau state, leaving one dead

A female farmer was killed and another injured after armed gunmen opened fire on them in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, suspected gunmen ambushed agricultural workers in Rinyan village, located within the Tahoss community of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State. The assault, which took place around 3:50 p.m., resulted in the death of 40-year-old Hudung Luka. Another woman, 50-year-old Ladi Istifanus, was wounded by gunfire and subsequently transported to a hospital for medical assistance.

Community member Bulus Rop reported that the attackers arrived at the farm, fired upon the women, and quickly retreated. He characterized the assault as a distressing continuation of violence affecting local farming populations and urged authorities to enhance security measures. Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, condemned the violence and joined the call for the government to secure vulnerable rural areas and apprehend the perpetrators. At the time of this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not provided an official statement on the incident.
