Law enforcement in Bauchi State have taken three individuals into custody regarding the death of 27-year-old Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi. The tragedy occurred during a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, located within Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area.
SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, confirmed on Wednesday that the arrests involve charges of criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, and culpable homicide. The investigation began after an 80-year-old resident filed a formal report on July 1. Authorities stated that the violence erupted on June 25 at approximately 6:30 pm following a dispute between youths from the Tudun Sullubawa and Dosi Hamlets.
During the altercation, the victim was struck with cutlasses. Although he was transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe, medical professionals were unable to save him. The three suspects, identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, were apprehended following a police investigation at the scene. The victim has since been interred according to Islamic tradition. The State Criminal Investigation Department has now assumed control of the case for further processing and prosecution. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu publicly denounced the act and called on community leaders to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution.
