Jigawa State officials from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have taken a 46-year-old man into custody for damaging the perimeter fencing at the Gabasmari Forest Reserve. This site is a crucial segment of the Great Green Wall environmental initiative in Birniwa Local Government Area.
The arrest occurred on Saturday morning after authorities received reports of increasing destruction of public assets throughout the state, including the theft of roofing, doors, and windows from various facilities. ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, the command’s spokesperson, identified the detained individual as Abdullahi Muhammad from Kasaaga Village.
Law enforcement officials attributed the successful capture to intelligence-sharing and the quick response of local farmer Amadu alongside Birniwa Zonal Forestry Officer Zakar Yau Muhammad. Initial findings indicate that the suspect tore down roughly 10 meters of protective wire from the barrier, which had been standing for seven years.
State commandant Muhammad Ingawa denounced the rise in criminal acts against government property. He issued a stern warning to potential offenders that the corps has stationed personnel across the region to ensure such vandalism is halted and prosecuted.
