The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially advanced 93 senior police officers to new ranks. This decision follows a rigorous process involving written exams and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The approval was formalized during a plenary session held this past Wednesday.
PSC representative Ikechukwu Ani confirmed that 13 Commissioners of Police were among those promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). Notable officers in this group include Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin. Additionally, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police were upgraded to the rank of Commissioner, while 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police moved up to the role of Deputy Commissioner. The commission also promoted 33 Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioner, alongside the confirmation of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I.
Hashimu Salihu Argungu, the Chairman of the Commission and a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, extended his congratulations to the officers. He emphasized the importance of maintaining accountability, transparency, and high professional standards in their future assignments. Argungu specifically warned against interfering in private civil matters, such as land disputes, and encouraged the officers to safeguard their personal and professional reputations through ethical conduct.
