Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has stated that terrorism and banditry contradict the core principles of Islam. During a meeting with National Youth Service Corps members at his palace, the Sultan highlighted that the faith is deeply rooted in justice, peace, and the protection of life.
Abubakar emphasized that Islam prohibits harming innocent people, advocating instead for compassion and harmony between all communities. He firmly rejected the habit of labeling criminals by their ethnic or religious identities. Instead, he argued that perpetrators should be labeled strictly as criminals, noting that wrongdoing exists across all cultural and religious divides.
Addressing the corps members, the Sultan encouraged them to respect local customs and remain vigilant during their service year. He advised them to disregard negative stereotypes about Sokoto and to verify information carefully rather than sharing unconfirmed reports on social media. Ultimately, he insisted that a name or faith does not define a criminal; their actions do.
