A passenger vehicle traveling along the Kurawa–Sabon Birni road in Sokoto State was destroyed by an improvised explosive device on Sunday morning. Local reports indicate that the blast killed at least one individual and left multiple passengers with injuries.
Security analyst Bashir Altine Guyawa confirmed the occurrence on social media, noting that the vehicle was conducting a routine trip to Sabon Birni when it triggered the hidden explosive. Bystanders and survivors worked to assist those trapped in the debris, leading to a scene of widespread distress among the local population.
This incident has intensified anxiety in the region, where residents rely heavily on the route for trade and daily travel. Security professionals suggest that criminal factions are turning to such tactics following increased military pressure. Community leaders are now urging security forces to increase patrols and clear rural roads to protect citizens.
The Sokoto State Police Command has not yet provided an official statement regarding the event. DSP Ahmad Rufai, the police spokesperson, did not respond to multiple inquiries for comment.
