Ekiti High Court Condemns Two Kidnappers to Death

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced two kidnappers to death for the abduction of an NYSC staff member, while clearing a third suspect of all charges.

An Ekiti State High Court has issued a death sentence to two individuals captured by the Department of State Services (DSS) for the abduction of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) employee. Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar were found guilty, while a third accused person, Usman Abubakar, was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

The criminal proceedings stemmed from the kidnapping of Omoboade Adesina, an NYSC worker, which occurred on April 22, 2022. Following the investigation, the DSS took both men into custody and pursued the case.

Chief Judge Lekan Ogunmoye ordered that the two convicts be executed by hanging. During his ruling, the judge praised the DSS for their thorough prosecution, noting that the identification parade and the review of call records were essential in securing the conviction. This legal victory is the latest in a series of successful prosecutions by the agency, illustrating their focus on utilizing intelligence to address violent criminal activity.
