Chief Bona Nlemadim, a prominent figure in the Imo State All Progressives Congress, has formally exited the party to join the Action Peoples Party. In a signed letter dated June 25, 2026, Nlemadim explained that his departure was driven by the persistent marginalization of his home region, the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.
Nlemadim, who previously supported the APC and aligned with former Governor Rochas Okorocha, clarified that he maintains his personal support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, he expressed deep frustration over political decisions within the state, specifically highlighting the failure of the party to support Dr. Chijioke Kaduru’s senatorial ambitions. He noted that despite Kaduru’s broad grassroots appeal and integrity, the party leadership favored incumbent Senator Ezenwa Onyenwuchi of Owerri North, effectively abandoning the Imo Charter of Equity.
The politician further criticized the lack of development in Ngor Okpala, pointing to poor infrastructure and the absence of democratic dividends after years of party loyalty. He dismissed promises of a future governorship slot for the region as unlikely, choosing instead to focus his efforts on supporting local candidates regardless of their political affiliation. Nlemadim stated that his decision to leave the party platform is intended to secure his peace of mind while prioritizing the interests of his community over party loyalty.
