Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced on Tuesday that Abuja will undergo a significant transformation before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concludes his first term. He emphasized that the current infrastructure push will remain unaffected by the upcoming election cycle.
Speaking at the commencement of the Southern Parkway service carriageways in the Gaduwa District, Wike reaffirmed his administration’s focus on the city’s development. APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda performed the official flag-off ceremony. Wike confidently stated that by May 29, 2027, the capital’s appearance will be entirely different.
Addressing concerns regarding potential project stalling due to the 2027 elections, Wike rejected the notion, promising that work would continue regardless of political events. He confirmed that he is in direct communication with the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, to ensure the Southern Parkway is finished by January 2027. He pledged that the FCT Administration will meet its financial obligations to the firm to ensure steady progress.
Furthermore, Wike issued a firm warning to land grabbers and unauthorized developers. He declared that any structures built on land without valid allocation documents will be demolished to protect the integrity of the Abuja Master Plan. He has instructed the Departments of Development Control and Lands to identify and clear all illegal buildings along the project route.
The Southern Parkway project aims to enhance traffic flow and support urban growth in the southern sector of the Federal Capital Territory. The event drew various political figures, traditional leaders, and industry representatives.
