Marizanne Kapp’s Commanding Performance Propels South Africa to Victory Over India

Marizanne Kapp’s unbeaten 81 and two wickets helped South Africa defeat India by six wickets, revitalizing their Women’s T20 World Cup prospects.

Marizanne Kapp delivered a stellar unbeaten 81 to guide South Africa to a six-wicket win against India, effectively keeping the Proteas’ World Cup campaign active. The all-rounder contributed significantly with the ball, finishing with figures of 2-27, before dominating the crease with seven fours and four sixes during her 45-ball display. South Africa reached the 159-run target with five deliveries remaining.

Kapp partnered with Tazmin Brits after the team slipped to 25-2 during the powerplay. The duo accelerated their scoring after a cautious start, reaching 59 by the midway point. Although Brits was dismissed for 40 after a catch by Shafali Verma, Kapp remained steadfast, even capitalizing on a missed catch by Radha Yadav to strike two decisive sixes against Deepti Sharma. Chloe Tyron ultimately secured the win with a boundary.

India, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur in her 200th T20 international, posted 158-7. Shafali Verma provided an early boost with 31 off 15 balls, but the team lost momentum once both openers were dismissed. Despite a 21-ball 29 from Deepti Sharma, India struggled to build partnerships, with key batters failing to accelerate. South Africa now sits level on four points with India in the group standings, with crucial matches against Bangladesh and the Netherlands ahead.
