Hospitalized victims of Bedford train collision identified as investigation begins

Following a fatal train collision in Bedford that claimed the life of a driver, 28 people remain in the hospital as authorities launch a formal investigation into the crash.

On Saturday afternoon, nine individuals were still receiving medical treatment following a lethal train collision in Bedford that took place on Friday evening. British Transport Police Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi offered her sincere sympathies to the loved ones of the train driver who lost his life in the incident.

Reports indicate that initially over 80 people were provided medical care after the 17:15 crash, with 28 individuals still hospitalized as of Saturday. Passenger Pete Knapp recounted the terrifying experience to the BBC, comparing the impact to the force of an exploding bomb.

Network Rail has cautioned that a difficult recovery mission is underway, which will result in the suspension of all rail services between London St Pancras and Bedford throughout the weekend. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has pledged a comprehensive inquiry to determine the exact cause of the collision.
