Ogun State Police Dismantle Armed Robbery and Vehicle Theft Ring

Ogun State police have arrested three suspects linked to a robbery and car theft syndicate, recovering stolen vehicles and key evidence following investigations in Abeokuta.

The Anti-Robbery Squad from the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran has detained three men accused of participating in armed robbery and vehicle theft throughout Abeokuta. The individuals in custody are Ismaila Israel Sokunbi, 38, Kayode Adeyemi, 37, and 55-year-old Kola Taiwo. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that the operation resulted in the recovery of a Toyota Corolla and other evidence connected to these crimes.

The investigation began after an attempted carjacking near Obantoko, where the victim raised an alarm, forcing the suspects to flee. They abandoned their vehicle after crashing into a fence, leaving behind a phone and an ATM card. By analyzing these items, detectives tracked down Sokunbi, who led them to the alleged mastermind, Adeyemi, based in Ibadan. Authorities eventually captured the pair in the Oke-Jigbo and Isale Abese sections of Abeokuta. The men confessed to their roles in a criminal network that stole vehicles by manipulating ignition systems.

Separately, police apprehended Kola Taiwo, who was found in possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla. Investigators determined he had been using master keys to steal parked vehicles around the Osiele area. All suspects remain in police custody while authorities continue to search for additional stolen property and other syndicate members. Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, stated that the department maintains a firm stance against violent crime and promised residents continued protection while urging criminal elements to cease their activities.
