Sarah Adlington to spearhead Scotland’s judo team at Glasgow 2026

Sarah Adlington will lead a 13-member Scottish judo squad at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, aiming for a record-breaking third career gold medal.

Sarah Adlington, the first judoka to secure two Commonwealth gold medals, plans to finish her competitive career on a high note by leading the Scottish squad at the 2026 Glasgow Games. The 39-year-old athlete, who triumphed at both the 2014 and 2022 events, will be joined by 12 teammates making their first appearance at the competition.

Adlington expressed her intent to leverage her extensive experience to secure a third gold, marking a fitting finale to her time in the sport. While the veteran prepares for her final appearance, the rest of the female contingent is significantly younger, with an average age of 20.

The team includes rising talents like Sunny Doig and 18-year-old Eva Ewing. Meanwhile, Scott Cusack is set for his Games debut, following in the athletic footsteps of his parents, Loretta and Billy, who earned medals at the 1990 Auckland Games. Loretta Cusack will also be present in her capacity as the sport competition manager. Additionally, Ollie Short joins the squad following a series of successful international outings, aiming to improve upon his brother Alex’s recent performance.
