Peter Obi Reaffirms NDC is Built on Principles, Not Personal Interests

Peter Obi and Senator Henry Seriake Dickson have characterized the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a sustainable political institution built on service rather than the ambitions of a single individual, while also announcing plans for a secure electronic voting system.

Peter Obi, the presidential aspirant for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed party members on Monday evening, promising that their efforts to foster a new Nigeria remain valued even if they do not secure party nominations. Obi emphasized that the NDC is designed to be an institution grounded in fairness, service, and internal democracy, rather than serving as a vehicle for individual political ambition.

Addressing the challenges faced by those seeking public office, Obi thanked them for their commitment during a turbulent era. He insisted that while not every member will achieve electoral success, the party recognizes the hard work invested in the national cause. He stated clearly that the NDC is not a temporary platform for opportunists, but a permanent movement designed to outlast its creators.

The discussion also turned to foreign affairs, as Obi shared insights from his recent trip to South Africa. He expressed concern regarding the disillusionment of Nigerians abroad, noting that many feel compelled to stay overseas due to poor governance, economic decline, and insecurity back home. He voiced frustration over Nigeria’s diminished international status, pointing out that the nation, which once led global peacekeeping efforts, currently struggles to maintain its own internal security.

During the same event, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a national leader of the NDC and former Bayelsa State Governor, announced the party’s plan to launch an electronic voting system. Although development of the mobile-based voting platform is complete, the party is delaying its rollout to ensure coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and to avoid technical errors. Dickson reiterated that the NDC is meant to be a lasting movement, distancing it from the transactional nature of traditional political parties.
