Catholic Diocese Confirms Attack On St. Mary’s Schools in Niger
The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has verified that armed assailants attacked St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, during the early morning hours of November 21, 2025, resulting in the kidnapping of pupils, students, teachers, and a security guard.
The official statement from the church indicated that the raid occurred “between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.”, generating considerable fear within the educational community. The Diocese also reported that one security personnel sustained severe gunshot wounds during the incident.
Condemning the violence, the Diocese expressed “deep concern for the safety” of the abducted children and their relatives. It confirmed that security agencies were promptly notified and have initiated “coordinated efforts” aimed at ensuring the victims are safely rescued and returned.
The Bishop reassured the public of the Diocese’s close collaboration with security services, government officials, and local community leaders. While urging calm and public cooperation with authorities, the church reiterated its commitment to protecting children.
The statement concluded by appealing to the public to support security operations and pray for the quick and safe return of all those abducted, promising further updates as soon as verified information is available.
