Students from various tertiary institutions in Ondo State took to the streets today, March 27, to protest the rising cases of kidnappings and criminal activities in the state.

Led by NANS South West Chairman, Oluwarotimi Joshua, the students blocked major roads in Akure, the state capital, disrupting traffic as they demanded urgent action from the government and security agencies.

The protesters carried placards expressing their frustration, accusing the state government of neglecting security issues and failing to address their demands despite previous engagements.

In addition to security concerns, the students highlighted poor conditions in tertiary institutions, the lack of student-friendly policies, and threats faced by students, especially those undergoing the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

An attempt by Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, to disperse the protesters and clear the roads was met with resistance.
