Xabi Alonso expresses desire for Enzo Fernández to remain at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirms he has held private talks with Enzo Fernández to ensure the midfielder stays at the club amid ongoing transfer rumors.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed his intention to keep Enzo Fernández at Stamford Bridge. During his introductory press conference on Monday, Alonso stated that he has already discussed the midfielder’s future privately, effectively addressing rumors regarding a potential transfer to Real Madrid.

Fernández is currently representing Argentina at the FIFA World Cup, fueling ongoing speculation about his future. While reports previously suggested Real Madrid held an interest in the 25-year-old, the Spanish club has refuted those claims. Chelsea reportedly values the player at £120 million.

Beyond the situation with Fernández, Alonso announced that Nicolas Jackson will rejoin the team for the pre-season tour in Asia and Australia after Bayern Munich declined to sign him permanently. Conversely, winger Alejandro Garnacho remains absent from training as he manages transfer discussions, with Roma identified as a potential suitor.

As he prepares for the 2026/27 Premier League season, Alonso aims to return Chelsea to European competition. He emphasized his enthusiasm for working with the club’s sporting directors and identified a strong foundation as the key to future success.

Alonso assumed his role last week following his departure from Real Madrid in January.
