The Wukari chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Taraba State has formally rejected reports suggesting that the organization is pressuring educators to sign up for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The union labeled these online allegations as deceptive and entirely without merit.
Bawa Baaku, the branch chairman, clarified in a Saturday statement that the claims do not reflect the union’s actual operations or stance. He emphasized that the NUT functions strictly as a professional trade union rather than a political entity and avoids partisan activities.
The organization highlighted its true objectives, which include advocating for teacher welfare, fostering professional growth, and championing high-quality education. The leadership urged the public to dismiss the false reports, which they characterized as a deliberate attempt to misinterpret their professional duties.
Additionally, the union noted that legitimate statements are issued only through their official channels. The branch remains dedicated to its core mission of supporting teachers and elevating educational standards in Wukari.
