Wike Endorses Local Contractors, Citing Success of Abuja Infrastructure Projects

Minister Nyesom Wike expressed confidence in indigenous contractors after the successful completion of the Karu road project by a local firm, marking a shift in his perspective on domestic construction capabilities.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated on Monday that Nigerian construction firms have reached a level of professional maturity that rivals international companies. This assertion followed the successful delivery of the Karu road project in Abuja by Abdul-Val Constructions Limited.

During the inauguration ceremony, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wike admitted he had initial doubts regarding the local contractor. Citing poor past experiences with domestic firms that abandoned projects after receiving upfront payments, the Minister was reluctant to grant the contract. However, after a successful trial project at the War College-Ushafa Road last year, the contractor proved his competency.

Wike specifically lauded the firm for its dedication, noting that work continued steadily even when payment delays occurred. He praised the contractor for maintaining progress based on faith in the administration, ultimately meeting the deadline for the President’s anniversary project schedule. The project included both road construction and essential drainage systems.

Furthermore, Wike highlighted that the administration has honored its commitment to Karu residents by constructing various internal roads. He emphasized that infrastructure development should be appreciated regardless of political leanings. The Minister concluded by reaffirming that President Tinubu remains committed to delivering development across all districts of the Federal Capital Territory to improve the lives of residents.
