Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, alleged on Thursday that Tanimu Turaki’s faction within the Peoples Democratic Party is exploiting candidates for financial gain. Speaking during a media event in Abuja, Wike stated that these actions are ultimately futile.
The Minister explained that the Independent National Electoral Commission has already granted the legitimate party leadership the necessary access codes to register candidates. He questioned the viability of the Turaki faction, noting they lack the required authorization to upload candidate information. Wike asserted that these individuals are providing false hope to aspirants by promising legal victories that will not materialize.
Furthermore, Wike dismissed the notion that the PDP is genuinely divided, arguing that disagreement does not equal a legitimate party faction. He emphasized that the group lacks a formal secretariat and does not participate in official INEC meetings. According to Wike, only the recognized party leadership has the authority to represent the organization, and any claims of a split are unfounded.
