West Ham’s Michail Antonio Undergoes Surgery After Being Airlifted to Hospital Following Ferrari Crash
West Ham striker Michail Antonio has undergone surgery for a lower limb fracture following a serious Ferrari crash.
The 34-year-old Jamaican footballer sustained a fractured leg in the accident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon in Epping Forest, Essex.
Antonio’s silver Ferrari crashed, leaving him trapped in the passenger seat.
Fire crews worked for over 45 minutes to free Antonio from the vehicle.
West Ham issued a statement on Saturday night confirming that Antonio was in stable condition after being taken to the hospital. On Sunday, the club confirmed that he had undergone surgery.
A statement from West Ham read:
‘West Ham can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.
‘Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.
Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.’
