Vice-President JD Vance has stated that the United States and Iran must still resolve several specific issues before concluding a formal agreement regarding the ongoing conflict.
When asked if President Donald Trump was nearing a signed deal, Vance remarked that it remains uncertain if or when both parties will reach a final settlement.
Reports indicate that the two nations have drafted a memorandum of understanding, pending approval from President Trump and Iranian leadership.
This proposal would reportedly extend the existing ceasefire by 60 days and initiate discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear development.
However, Iran’s Tasnim news agency noted that nothing has been officially confirmed. The framework allegedly includes provisions for unrestricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran tasked with clearing mines within 30 days. In return, the US would lift naval blockades and issue waivers to allow Iranian oil exports.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent refrained from confirming a deal, emphasizing that any decision rests with the president. Meanwhile, the region remains volatile as both nations have exchanged accusations of ceasefire violations.
Despite recent reports of aerial engagement, US Central Command denied claims that any US aircraft were downed. President Trump has indicated that while negotiations are ongoing, the alternative of resuming military operations remains a possibility if a deal cannot be finalized.
