A judge mandated on Monday that American artist D4vd must face trial for the murder and dismemberment of a 14-year-old girl. Prosecutors allege the 21-year-old singer, legally named David Anthony Burke, killed the victim to prevent her from exposing their prohibited sexual history.
Judge Charlaine Olmedo determined that sufficient evidence exists following a five-day legal proceeding. During the hearing, authorities showcased text messages in which the victim, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, threatened to sabotage Burke’s professional career. Her remains were ultimately located inside the trunk of his vehicle.
The prosecution claims the relationship began when Hernandez was 13 and Burke was 18. Facing charges of murder, child sexual abuse, and mutilation of remains, Burke could be sentenced to life in prison or capital punishment. Evidence suggests Burke purchased tools to dispose of the body after allegedly summoning the victim to his residence in April 2025.
While Burke’s legal team argues the incident was not a premeditated killing and highlights the victim’s history of mental health struggles, prosecutors reject the notion of an accident. The victim’s family representatives have condemned the defense’s strategy of blaming the teenager. A follow-up hearing regarding trial logistics is scheduled for Friday.
