UK to Implement Widespread Visa Fee Hikes Starting April 8, 2026

The British government is set to raise costs for numerous immigration and residency services beginning April 8, 2026.

This adjustment, confirmed in a recent Home Office schedule, will impact international travelers, students, and workers, including the substantial number of applicants from Nigeria.

The price increases apply to a broad spectrum of categories, ranging from short-term visits to permanent settlement and citizenship applications, as the UK continues its transition toward a self-funded immigration model.

Under the new tariff, the cost of a standard six-month visit visa will rise from £127 to £135, while student visa fees are slated to increase from £524 to £558.

Those pursuing long-term residency face steeper adjustments: indefinite leave to remain (ILR) will now cost £3,226, up from £3,029, and the fee for British naturalization will climb to £1,709.

While most categories saw a 6% to 7% increase, a few remained unchanged, such as the Investor and High Potential Individual visas. Notably, the government introduced a rare price cut for child citizenship registration, reducing the fee from £1,214 to £1,000.

Here is the full list of UK visa and immigration fees relevant to Nigerians:
