UITH Officials Denounce Attack on Physician by Patient’s Family Member

University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital management has officially condemned the physical assault of a doctor by a patient’s relative and reaffirmed its commitment to staff safety.

The administration at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) has officially denounced a physical attack on a doctor by a family member of a patient. Abiodun Fagbemi, the hospital’s Head of Corporate Affairs, issued a statement on Friday expressing strong disapproval of the event.

The institution maintains that it prioritizes the welfare of its staff alongside the health and safety of those under its care. UITH emphasized a strict policy of zero tolerance for any verbal or physical aggression directed at medical personnel while they perform their duties.

To handle grievances, the hospital provides accessible channels for families to voice complaints. Additionally, signage in multiple languages is displayed throughout the premises to discourage violence against healthcare workers. Security measures have also been tightened to protect everyone on the hospital grounds.

Supporting the Association of Resident Doctors in seeking legal action, the hospital noted that the individual responsible for the assault is currently facing court proceedings. UITH remains focused on delivering high-quality, respectful medical services within a secure setting.
