French authorities have taken a couple into custody after the remains of five infants were located inside their residence in Orange, located in the Vaucluse region. The grim discovery occurred on July 28, 2026, within the historic city center.
The situation came to light after the 32-year-old mother delivered a healthy baby boy at home on July 27, 2026, and subsequently required hospital care. Her partner, also 32, reportedly conducted a search of their property upon realizing she had been pregnant. He uncovered items that appeared to be human remains stored in cardboard boxes and promptly alerted medical staff, who then notified the public prosecutor.
Forensic experts suspect the remains belong to five newborns, though detailed autopsies are pending. The couple’s other two children, aged eight and nine, are currently staying with family members. The recently born infant has been placed under the care of social services.
