Top Contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or Identified

Harry Kane leads the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or despite England’s World Cup exit, facing competition from stars like Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Spain’s World Cup winners.

Harry Kane, the England national team captain, stands as the primary candidate for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, a report from AS indicates. This recognition comes even after England’s semi-final exit to Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.

While Kane tallied six goals during the tournament, his scoring record trailed behind Kylian Mbappé with ten, Lionel Messi with eight, and both Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham with seven. Despite this, Mbappé and Messi remain prominent rivals for the prestigious trophy.

Kane also faces significant pressure from Rodri and Lamine Yamal. Both players were instrumental in Spain’s successful campaign to win the World Cup in North America. A victory would mark the first Ballon d’Or for Kane.

The Bayern Munich forward enjoyed a stellar individual campaign, recording 61 goals across 51 matches as his club secured both league and domestic cup titles. Since his 2023 transfer from Tottenham, Kane has maintained a remarkable scoring rate, totaling 98 goals in 94 matches.
