The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), working alongside the Nigeria Police Force, has successfully apprehended an individual linked to the destruction of six electrical transmission towers on the Yola–Jalingo 330kV line. Officials confirmed the incident in a Wednesday statement, noting that the damage, affecting towers T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003, and T1004, was first identified during an inspection on July 29, 2026.
Investigations discovered that perpetrators had dismantled essential bracing components, stripping roughly 130 parts from the structures and leaving them unstable. Following a joint operation in the local area on July 30, TCN and police engaged with community leaders to encourage collaboration in finding the culprits.
By August 1, police confirmed the arrest of a primary suspect and the recovery of some stolen tower parts. TCN representatives inspected the recovered items and have pushed for strict legal action against those involved. Law enforcement officials continue to follow leads to track down remaining members of the criminal network.
TCN officials expressed strong disapproval of these recurring attacks, which jeopardize significant investments and the overall consistency of the national power grid. The organization is urging citizens to monitor installations and report any unusual behavior to authorities to help protect essential national assets.
