Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, will be missing two key players for their closing Group C game at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Defender Oluwatosin Demehin and midfielder Jennifer Echegini are both sidelined due to suspensions issued by the Confederation of African Football.
These absences follow a narrow 1-0 win against Zambia this past Saturday. That victory allowed the nine-time champions to bounce back following an unexpected loss to Malawi in their opening match. The upcoming fixture against Egypt serves as a crucial tie for the Nigerians, as they fight to secure a spot in the knockout phase.
Demehin was handed a direct red card during the 40th minute of the Zambia contest. The dismissal occurred after she fouled Zambian captain Barbra Banda, who was moving toward the goal. Meanwhile, Echegini faces a one-game ban due to an accumulation of yellow cards, following her second booking of the tournament against the Zambians.
