Sunday Ebitare Thompson, a prominent local organizer for the Nigerian Democratic Congress in Bayelsa State, has officially stepped down from his position. This decision comes as political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a formal letter submitted on June 27, 2026, to the leadership of Ward 13 in the Sagbama Local Government Area, Ebitare announced his departure. This move follows his initial switch to the NDC from the All Progressives Congress on May 17, 2026, a transition he made alongside a group of his followers.
While Ebitare did not specify the exact motivations for his latest exit, reports suggest his departure could be linked to ongoing internal friction stemming from the party’s primary election processes. In his resignation notice, he stated that his departure is effective immediately and expressed appreciation for the time spent within the party ranks, while extending well wishes for their future activities.
