A 56-year-old resident of St Helens was taken into custody on Friday regarding the racial harassment of Wigan Warriors player Junior Nsemba. The arrest follows an incident of online abuse directed at the 22-year-old England representative after his team’s recent 16-14 win over St Helens at the Magic Weekend event.
Authorities from Greater Manchester Police confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect is currently being held on suspicion of a racially aggravated malicious communication offence. The police force expressed gratitude to both sports clubs for their cooperation in identifying the individual.
The Wigan Warriors organization expressed deep shock regarding the incident, labeling the behavior as unacceptable in any environment. Head coach Matt Peet emphasized the importance of addressing the issue directly rather than ignoring it. The club officially alerted both the Rugby Football League and local law enforcement as soon as the comments were brought to their attention.
