Spider-Man: Brand New Day Smashes Domestic Opening Weekend Record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set a new record for the highest domestic opening weekend in history, earning $360 million.

Updated data from the United States and Canada confirms that Spider-Man: Brand New Day secured the largest domestic opening weekend in cinematic history. Sony Pictures announced that the film, starring Tom Holland, reached $360 million, surpassing the initial $355 million estimate. This performance eclipses the $357 million unadjusted debut set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

Worldwide, the movie accumulated $932 million during its opening, trailing behind the record-setting $1.2 billion earned by Endgame. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the story follows Peter Parker as he navigates isolation and evolving mutant abilities after hiding his identity. The narrative depicts his attempts to rebuild relationships with MJ, played by Zendaya, and his friend Ned, portrayed by Jacob Batalon, while facing a fresh threat to New York City.

The ensemble cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Florence Pugh, and Sadie Sink. This release arrives before the scheduled December debut of Avengers: Doomsday. Although The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan held IMAX exclusivity during the opening, Brand New Day is scheduled to enter IMAX theaters this upcoming weekend. According to Variety, this achievement marks only the second instance of a film surpassing $300 million during its first weekend.
