Six fatalities reported following gas truck blast at Kogi military checkpoint

A gas truck explosion at an Army checkpoint on the Abuja-Lokoja highway in Kogi State has claimed the lives of six people, destroying several vehicles in the process.

A fatal explosion involving a truck carrying gas cylinders occurred at an Army checkpoint on the Abuja-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, resulting in six deaths. Security expert Zagazola Makama reported the incident on Tuesday, noting that the blast happened within the Chikara Division area.

First responders, including police units, the Motor Traffic Division, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, arrived quickly to manage the scene. The fire erupted as the truck neared the checkpoint, spreading rapidly to three other vehicles. Both the gas truck operator and his assistant were killed, alongside the drivers and assistants of the three additional trucks.

The destroyed vehicles originated from Jigawa State, Lagos State, and the Federal Capital Territory. Authorities transported the victims to the General Hospital in Abaji and cleared the wreckage from the road to resume normal traffic flow.
