Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, the national spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, contends that President Bola Tinubu’s choice to keep Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for 2027 offers no real electoral benefit to the All Progressives Congress. In a recent interview, Mohammed asserted that Seyi Tinubu possesses greater authority within the current administration than the Vice President.
Mohammed remarked that the President’s decision followed a predictable path rather than a strategic one aimed at securing additional votes. He noted that northern voters, who once defended the Muslim-Muslim ticket, have since observed the administration’s performance and are rethinking their support. According to Mohammed, this selection prioritizes the President’s personal comfort over any tangible value Shettima might bring to the ticket.
The spokesperson further argued that religious identity will no longer dictate voter behavior, as citizens have shifted their focus toward competence and sincerity. He pointed out that Shettima’s role appears restricted to public appearances and speeches, with little evidence of significant policy impact. Furthermore, Mohammed highlighted that the administration has failed to curb insecurity or alleviate poverty, particularly in the North, leaving many voters disillusioned with the current leadership.
