Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor and presidential hopeful for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has challenged the party’s newly appointed officials to forge alliances with other opposition groups before the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the party’s national convention in Bauchi, Makinde emphasized that a robust opposition is vital for the health of the nation’s democracy.
Makinde argued that the upcoming electoral cycle must prioritize tangible results over rhetoric and political branding. He insisted that citizens should evaluate leaders based on concrete changes in their living standards rather than government declarations. According to the governor, the success of economic policies should be gauged by the purchasing power of families in the marketplace, while employment initiatives must be measured by the actual availability of meaningful work.
Addressing the issue of safety, Makinde stated that security should be judged by the level of peace enjoyed by communities, not by the frequency of official meetings. He concluded by urging fellow opposition figures to provide clear, actionable alternatives for the country, specifically highlighting the need for economic growth, youth empowerment, improved education, and national stability.
