Brian Madjo has finally made his mark for Aston Villa after an agonizing eight-month wait to play competitive football. Although Villa fell 2-1 to Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup held in Salzburg, the 17-year-old striker delivered a standout performance. The teenager, who joined from Metz in January for £10 million, had been sidelined due to a registration dispute between the club and FIFA. The issue was only settled earlier this month after a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Standing 6ft 4in tall, the London-born forward was utilized by manager Unai Emery in the absence of Ollie Watkins. Despite missing two early opportunities, Madjo remained composed and leveled the score by volleying in a cross from John McGinn, showcasing his ability to hold off defenders like Marquinhos. Emery praised the youngster’s tactical discipline and work ethic following the match.
With Villa preparing for their Premier League opener against Brighton on 23 August, Madjo’s emergence provides Emery with a valuable alternative in attack.
