Seminarian seized by armed men at Otukpo Bishop’s house

Armed individuals have kidnapped a seminarian, Kelvin Ochai, from the Bishop’s residence in the Otukpo Diocese of Benue State.

The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo reported that Kelvin Ochai, a seminarian, was kidnapped during a raid at the Bishop’s residence in Asa III, Benue State. The event took place during the night of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo, the Diocesan Chancellor, released a statement confirming the abduction and requesting prayers for Ochai. Bishop Michael Apochi shared his grief regarding the situation and encouraged the community to remain steadfast in prayer for the seminarian’s safe return. The Diocese stated that official channels are working to ensure he is freed.

In a broader appeal, the Church also prayed for the safety of all kidnapping victims currently held across Nigeria. DSP Peter Aondongu, the Benue State Police spokesperson, noted that authorities have launched an investigation into the abduction.
