Sadiq Abubakar Gombe Clarifies INEC Recognition of SDP Leadership Ahead of 2027

SDP National Chairman Sadiq Abubakar Gombe explains that INEC restored his leadership status on its portal following a thorough verification of the party’s internal processes and documentation.

Sadiq Abubakar Gombe, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently detailed the circumstances behind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) updating its online records to identify him and his fellow National Working Committee (NWC) members as the party’s legitimate leaders. This adjustment comes as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

During a briefing in Abuja on Monday, Gombe explained that the electoral authority made the move after a comprehensive audit of documents, convention records, and disciplinary proceedings submitted by the party. INEC specifically sought information regarding internal elections, the selection of the party’s presidential candidate, and various administrative appointments before validating the current NWC.

Gombe attributed this restoration to the party’s strict adherence to internal regulations and due process. He noted that after the commission reached its conclusion in June, it took about a week for their names to officially reappear on the portal as the party’s substantive leadership, effectively replacing Shehu Gabam. The chairman emphasized that this outcome highlights the necessity for political organizations to follow legal and procedural channels to settle internal disputes.

Addressing members and the wider public, Gombe urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the SDP. He described the party as a reliable ideological alternative and pledged that it remains committed to nominating high-quality candidates for upcoming contests. He concluded by asserting that the SDP aims to provide the stable leadership that the country currently requires.
