President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that ongoing reforms to national security frameworks will effectively neutralize threats such as terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. During a meeting at the State House with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso, the President explained that the government is modernizing security institutions through improved logistics, better intelligence, and a focus on the well-being of troops.
Addressing the religious leaders, President Tinubu highlighted that his administration has successfully steered the economy away from the threat of bankruptcy. He noted that the national mood is improving as economic stability returns, citing the resolution of academic strikes as a key example of progress. The President further encouraged church leaders to foster hope within their congregations and assist the government in promoting national unity and development.
Archbishop Ndagoso, representing the delegation of 19 bishops, commended the President for his reception of Vatican officials during the recent 50th-anniversary celebration of diplomatic ties. He raised several concerns on behalf of the Church, including the need for higher education reforms, improved security, and the return of mission-owned schools. The Archbishop also urged the President to focus on strengthening democratic institutions, emphasizing that fostering credible, transparent elections in 2027 would be a significant historical legacy.
