President Tinubu Authorizes No-Cost CAC Registration for 250,000 Small Businesses

President Tinubu has launched an initiative to provide free corporate registration for 250,000 small businesses to encourage formalization and reduce operational costs.

President Bola Tinubu has granted approval to register 250,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises at no cost. This initiative was unveiled on Saturday at the State House in Abuja during the 8th National MSME Awards 2026. The program seeks to alleviate financial barriers for nano, micro, and small-scale entrepreneurs, helping them gain access to the formal banking and regulatory landscape.

Selected business owners will have their business names registered without paying statutory fees to the Corporate Affairs Commission. Beyond the fee waivers, the federal package provides business owners with essential guidance and technical training to bolster their long-term growth. Business owners interested in the program should visit the official SMEDAN portal using the tag #SMEDANGov to register and reserve their spots.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. Regulatory officials stated that this subsidy is intended to reduce the high closure rates seen among small businesses across the country.
