Presidency Criticizes Peter Obi Over Rhetoric on Poverty

A presidential aide has dismissed Peter Obi’s frequent criticisms of the administration’s economic policies, questioning his record as governor of Anambra State.

Temitope Ajayi, a senior media aide to President Bola Tinubu, recently ridiculed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, for his persistent claims that the current administration is responsible for widespread poverty. Ajayi suggested that Obi speaks as though he possesses a supernatural ability to eliminate economic hardship and transform citizens into millionaires.

Sharing his thoughts on X, the presidential spokesperson challenged Obi’s record, noting that poverty levels actually surged in Anambra State during his eight-year tenure as governor. Ajayi remarked that Obi’s constant focus on poverty implies he holds a solution that would instantly vanish economic distress across the nation if he were to take office.

These comments arrived following Obi’s own critique of the deteriorating economic climate. Obi argued that hunger and financial instability have become severe, citing that approximately 70 million citizens currently struggle to afford enough food. He stressed that the reality is visible in villages nationwide and urged that the current trajectory must change.
