Electricity consumers have received a reprieve as Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe stated that the Federal Government is not currently planning to raise electricity tariffs. During a press event in Lagos, Tegbe emphasized that the administration’s main goal is to improve grid reliability and market stability rather than adjusting prices. He expressed a commitment to using electricity as a driver for economic productivity while finding ways to support vulnerable households.
Reflecting on his first 50 days in office, Tegbe announced a technical audit of the nation’s transmission infrastructure. This assessment aims to pinpoint outdated equipment and system weaknesses to ensure future investments are targeted effectively. The minister highlighted three primary corridors for immediate infrastructure upgrades: Lagos, the Enugu–Port Harcourt line, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano route. These initiatives are expected to enhance grid capacity and stability within the next few years.
