Police Begin Investigation After Former Ondo SDP Candidate Found Dead in VGC
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a discreet investigation into the death of the former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the November 16, 2024 Ondo State election, who passed away under unclear circumstances.
The politician, Akingboye, died in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.
According to a statement by Lagos Police Command spokesperson DSP Oluseyi, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), along with forensic experts, visited the scene over the weekend. The area was secured as investigators deployed scientific tools to collect evidence and determine the cause of death.
During the visit, the deceased’s son, Samuel Akingboye, said he requested a police probe to uncover the truth about his father’s passing.
“I saw him the day before, so this is very shocking,” Samuel said. “I opened the case because I wasn’t getting any explanation. I just want to do right by him and know what happened.”
The deceased’s daughter, Michaella Akingboye, urged the public to ignore circulating rumours and expressed confidence in the police to resolve the matter.
